Can I use CDCP, Medicaid or social assistance with Opencare?

Looking for a dentist who accepts a government or social assistance dental plan? You're in the right place. Here's how these plans work on Opencare, which ones qualify for an Opencare reward, and where to find care if no practices show up near you.

How it works on Opencare

Each dental office decides which insurance plans it accepts, including government plans. When you tell us your insurance while booking, we match you with nearby Opencare offices that accept it.

If you don't see any matches, it usually means no Opencare office near you accepts that plan yet. We're adding new offices all the time, so it's worth checking back.

Tip: Always choose the plan you'll actually use at your visit. That way the office can confirm your coverage ahead of time, and there are no surprises when you arrive.

Booking with the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

Good news: lots of Opencare offices across Canada welcome CDCP patients. Here's what to know:

  • Select CDCP as your insurance when you book, so you're matched with offices that accept it.
  • Check your co-payment. Depending on your family income, CDCP may not cover the full cost of your visit, and some services aren't covered. Ask the office what you'll pay before your appointment.
  • You can earn an Opencare reward. CDCP appointments booked on or after July 1, 2026 qualify, as long as you meet all the other requirements.

Other government and social assistance plans

Plans like Medicaid, Medicare and provincial programs such as Ontario Works or ODSP are accepted by fewer Opencare offices, so you might see limited options or none at all. If you do book with one of these plans, you're welcome to visit, but the appointment won't qualify for an Opencare reward.
